Philip Mitchell is a mining industry veteran with a long and distinguished history of leadership roles at minerals giants Anglo American and Rio Tinto.
He served as Head of Business Development at Rio Tinto and held roles that spanned finance, M&A and strategic business change, including Managing Director, Development & CFO; Group Advisor, Mergers and Acquisitions; and GM for New Business.
Philip played a leading part in the transformation of Hamersley into Rio Tinto’s key iron ore business. Throughout his career, he has continuously focused on implementing a safety culture and improving productivity to reduce costs.
Philip was appointed Group Director, HR and Corporate Affairs, at Anglo American in 2014, with the company praising his “proven track record of working closely with business partners and host governments in Australia, China, Asia, South America, Indonesia and Africa.”
He also serves as chairman of I-Pulse’s I-ROX business, chairman of Société des Mines de Fer de Guinée (SMFG) and Chairman of the Board at Aura Energy Ltd. He is also a private investor and consultant.
Philip describes his long partnership with China, both in iron ore and at the corporate level, as a “huge privilege.”
